Co-creating a Sustainable Tourism Strategy and Policy for the Dominican Republic
In partnership with: Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic

Focus
This initiative aims to develop a comprehensive Sustainable Tourism Strategy and Policy that addresses national priorities, aligns with international standards, and creates an enabling environment for its effective implementation. Through a participatory and co-creation approach, the process seeks to promote a tourism model that is inclusive, resilient, and environmentally sustainable, delivering long-term benefits for both local communities and visitors.
Highlights
UN Tourism was on the ground for the regional workshops, a national-level workshop, capacity-building sessions, and the creation of an inter-institutional working group. Strategic meetings were also held with the Dominican Congress, ASONAHORES, local mayors, and tourism entrepreneurs.
During this mission, preliminary findings from a multidimensional diagnostic were presented. Valuable feedback from all stakeholders is now being used to prepare a first draft of the strategy and policy, which will be validated in the next mission.
